Thermal performance
The two main methods of assessing thermal performance are either energy ratings or U value assessment.
In the dwelling application, energy ratings are of particular benefit because they allow solar gain (heat transfer into the room from outside) this enables rooms to be warmer in the colder time of the year, whilst retaining heat in the building.
In commercial non-dwellings the ‘U’ value is the most beneficial method because solar gain would cause the building to heat up and therefore require air conditioning to maintain a comfortable working environment.
The Beaufort profiles range can achieve an A rating in the BFRC (British Fenestration Rating Council) assessment. It is also capable of achieving a 1.3w/m² U value. In both cases these were possible using a double glazed unit.
Acoustic performance
As developments are increasingly being undertaken in brown field sites close to roads and rail and airports. Consequently demands are placed on the window solutions to achieve more stringent acoustic performance than ever before. The Beaufort window range has been extensively tested and in a twin primary format achieved 59Db. Conventional windows can achieve 42Db depending on unit specification.
Acoustic windows can be manufactured to almost any size and shape and are readily incorporated both in modular structures and in buildings of conventional construction. Various window designs are available to suit both the acoustic demands and physical constraints of most applications.
These can be of either triple or double glazed design. Care, however, needs to be taken in determining which will afford the optimum sound transmission loss, as double glazing can afford very favourable levels of attenuation.
Available in single, double and triple glazed versions, acoustic windows have been used to contain or exclude sound from motorways, railways and airports.
Structural performance
Within the range we offer a variety of couplings and ancillaries that enable substantial framing to be achieved. Our Technical support department offers project based calculations for wind, structural and expansion.
Our range of curtain walling and screening products can easily accommodate screens up to 10m high and our high performance commercial windows have been successfully installed in buildings of 17 storeys. Many products have been installed in sea front highly exposed locations.
We are able to confidently offer advice on all aspects of applications of our products and frequently attend site meetings with all parties involved in the project.
Weather performance
The Beaufort Profiles Range, where applicable, has been tested in accordance with BS 6375-1. When manufactured, installed and glazed in strict accordance with the Beaufort technical manuals, the range is capable of exceeding exposure category ‘2400Pa special’.
All exposure categories are dependent on the height, width and application of the product. All windloading calculations are obtained using BS6399.
